THE SPANFEST VISION

SPANFEST is a ten days performing arts empowerment biennial festival with the mission to train performing artists in music, dance, drama and performing arts management; present thought provoking productions and artists and reward individuals who invested their talents to make transformational changes in the performing arts community.

SPANFEST 2017  – MY BEAT, MY CITY

This year’s event will be the 3rd edition of what is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting contemporary festivals in Nigeria, and it is themed “My Beat, My City (Ilu Mi, Iluu Mi),” in celebration of this vibrant 50 –year-old city Lagos and its citizens. This spectacular show of arts will feature 5 days of intensive Music Dance & Drama workshops and 6 days of mind blowing performance-packed performances and shows.

Opening/Award Night – The first night started with a BANG, with a Waackinaija fashion runway. Waackinija is the fusion of the ‘waacking’ and ‘voguing’ dance style into the fashion runway. 10 aspiring designers were chosen to showcase their creations competing for a chance to win N200,000/550.00 USD. The designs were out of this world, perfectly intermixing vibrant African fabric design in a functional trendy fashion.  The aspiring designers were mentored by Kiki Kamanu. Following the fashion show was swing and jazz dancers putting on a dazzling show paying homage to the dance style of cabaret and avant-garde shows. The night concluded with honoring 7 men and women known as the pioneers of their craft in not only Nigeria, but all of Africa and who have dedicated their time and efforts in making SPAN happen .
